Work for Us
The Southern Platte Fire Protection District consists of career firefighters. As with many fire departments in the United States, the District is property tax-supported, and has an annual call volume larger than a purely volunteer department.
Career Employment
Presently, the District employs 36 full-time career firefighters. Those firefighters are assigned to one of three shifts (A-Shift, B-Shift, and C-Shift).
Examples are, each day Pumper 61 operates with one officer, one fire apparatus operator, and one firefighter. Truck 63’s crew includes one officer, one fire apparatus operator, and two firefighters. Pumper 64 operates with one officer, one fire apparatus operator, and two firefighters.
A firefighter works two consecutive 24 hour shifts – They eat, sleep, exercise, train, perform inspections, and maintain district equipment when they are not responding to emergencies. After working the 48 hour tour, the firefighter gets 4 days (96 hours) off. This shift schedule is called 48/96.
Career Application Form
Each firefighter literally lives at Station One, Three or Four for a third of the month.
